Night Driving
Sun 22 Feb 2009 03:17:41 PM PSTBefore making the complete move to Fayetteville I carpooled for a few months back to Hope AR with a friend of mine who was also making the move to be with his fiance. We both worked the weekend shift at the local mental health center in Hope. So, for about three months it was at least a four hour drive (depending on who was driving) in on Friday morning and another coffee fueled drive back to the sanity and serenity of Fayetteville at 11:00 Sunday night. I did not often take my camera on these trips simply because I had no where safe to store it. The few times I did have my camera with me I took the opportunity to sit it on the dash or point it out a window just to see what I would get. As it turned out the interstate neon was agreeable to me. The constant streams of promises for your last beer, last chance for gas or a clean bathroom mixed with headlights, taillights and fast food restaurants galore, turned into abstract creations that can not be duplicated. So while the company was good, the coffee sometimes good, and the bathrooms never quite as clean as the sign suggested the images were well worth the trip.
Portraits and People

I will how ever meet you at your location or about town to take a walk and use what is already existing and interesting as the back drop. The world is interesting enough with out cardboard painted trees or indoor beach scenes.
Project Soup Pot
Sun 22 Feb 2009 12:56:15 PM PSTOne afternoon while I was cleaning my kitchen and preparing to make a pot of soup, to help fight back at the winter months, I happened to notice patterns forming in the soapy pot I was going to use. Needless to say I ended up ordering take out later, after pulling out lights and food coloring and anything else I could think of that would alter the effects of the images. I suppose this could be one of the reasons why people always ask "if" I'm cooking instead of "what" I'm cooking. I am pleased with the finished product and amazed at how something as simple as a black pot can change into something almost of a space scene with out much effort.

Sun 22 Feb 2009 12:02:17 PM PSTI suppose my fascination with ordinary every day objects led to this project. I guess I'm one of those people that just sees things in a different way. I always imagined as I drove past the occasional southern home/junkyard, all the things they could be doing with that junk, instead of letting it sit there. I wanted to at lest photograph what I couldn't clean or turn into a profit for someone. This in turn led me to traveling Arkansas in search of junkyards and front porches that I could get permission to capture on film. It turns out many a junkyard has specific rules about who can see their junk. One owner told me, "If I let you out there you could rob us blind". Not that I had came dressed as a pirate, but I suppose if I had really wanted I may have been able to construct with a few visits and my camera bag my very own 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, automobile out of respect for the late Johnny Cash. But, this was not my intention. Honestly, it turns out that most people are proud of their collections and even more have plans for their "junk" far greater than what NASA could have dreamed of and they welcomed the opportunity to talk to someone that was willing to listen. (Though watch out for the ones with signs that say will shoot trespassers, they probably will shoot you). So, check back often as I plan to continue this project for a while.
Nature and Southern Exposure
Sun 22 Feb 2009 12:47:02 PM PSTNature photography was once a passion of mine and I hope in the next few months to get back to nature again. The winter months just tend to keep me indoors and though the occasional chance to see everything as if it were covered in frosted glass is amazing, ITS COLD.
