J.S.Campbell Photography | junk
I suppose my fascination with ordinary every day objects led to this project. I guess I'm one of those people that just sees things in a different way. I always imagined as I drove past the occasional southern home/junkyard, all the things they could be doing with that junk, instead of letting it sit there. I wanted to at lest photograph what I couldn't clean or turn into a profit for someone. This in turn led me to traveling Arkansas in search of junkyards and front porches that I could get permission to capture on film. It turns out many a junkyard has specific rules about who can see their junk. One owner told me, "If I let you out there you could rob us blind". Not that I had came dressed as a pirate, but I suppose if I had really wanted I may have been able to construct with a few visits and my camera bag my very own 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, automobile out of respect for the late Johnny Cash. But, this was not my intention. Honestly, it turns out that most people are proud of their collections and even more have plans for their "junk" far greater than what NASA could have dreamed of and they welcomed the opportunity to talk to someone that was willing to listen. (Though watch out for the ones with signs that say will shoot trespassers, they probably will shoot you). So, check back often as I plan to continue this project for a while.
